Nestled within picturesque mountains, vast waterways, and the heart of a vibrant coastal city, Wenzhou University (WZU) offers unparalleled educational opportunities for students who are looking to study within a rich cultural environment and benefit from a strong academic tradition. Of the more than 2500 colleges and universities located throughout China, WZU is nationally recognized as No.1 in practice-based training, in the top 10 of entrepreneurship programs, and ranks within the top 6 percent overall.
Since its inauguration in 1933 - thanks to the leadership of the renowned industrialist, Mr. Huang Suchu - WZU has grown to 6 schools. Among the first Chinese Language and Culture Education institutes (designated by the Chinese Ministry of Education for recipients of national scholarships), WZU is authorized to accept overseas students of Chinese heritage and students from Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan. Importantly, overseas students can apply for national scholarships (i.e., the Chinese Government Scholarship), International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship, Zhejiang Provincial Government Scholarship, and the Scholarship for International Students.
Its academic programs cover 9 discipline areas include Literature, Science, Engineering, Law，Education, Economics, History, Management and Art. It offers 46 postgraduate programs (including doctorate program in Chemistry), and 57 undergraduate programs. The number of full-time faculty and staff is 1,719. It has about 14,000 undergraduates, 1,500 postgraduates, 500 international students and around 13,000 part-time students annually for continuing education.
Attaching great importance to educating international students, all of the 57 undergraduate programs and 46 postgraduate programs are open to international students. Complementing this, WZU offers courses taught exclusively in English at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. These special programs offer rich opportunities for international students to acquire highly specialized knowledge while gaining a better understanding of the Chinese language and culture.
