Hubei Institute of Fine Arts(湖北美术学院)
Hubei Institute of Fine Arts (HIFA) is a comprehensive institution of higher education for fine arts and design in central China and a prestigious academy of fine arts in China, with its history dating back to the founding of Wuchang Fine Arts School in 1920 .
HIFA is located in Wuhan, the capital of Central China’s Hubei province, one of China’s nine National Central Cities and China’s 4th UNESCO City of Design.
HIFA has two campuses, covering an area of more than 470,000 square meters. The old Tanhualin Campus is located on the south bank of the Yangtze River in Wuchang District in the heart of Wuhan, transformed into Tanhualin Art Zone, consisting of artist studios, HIFA Art Museum, research centers and School of Continuing Education and Training, and companies including Hubei HIFA Cultural Development Co., Ltd. The new Canglongdao Campus is located in Jiangxia District of Wuhan.
HIFA has over 740 faculty and staff members, and more than 8,000 undergraduate and graduate students.
HIFA offers Bachelor’s and Masters’ degree programs, courses for a joint Doctorate degree program as well as non-degree programs in the fields of fine arts, design, and art history and theory. HIFA, with “Fine Arts” as one of its first-level disciplines, is one of the Domestic First-Class Discipline Construction universities and colleges of Hubei Province. Among 27 Bachelor’s Degree programs, nine programs, namely, Painting, Sculpture, Visual Communication Design, Environmental Art & Design, Product Design, Fashion and Apparel Design, Chinese Painting, Arts and Crafts, Public Art are on the list of the National First-Class Undergraduate Program Construction Sites, and two programs, namely, Art History and Theory, Animation are on the list of the Provincial First-Class Undergraduate Program Construction Sites.
HIFA has 16 departments and schools, including School of Chinese Painting, School of Painting, School of Sculpture and Public Art, School of Film, Television and Animation, School of Visual Art Design, School of Environmental Art, School of Fashion and Art, School of Industrial Design, School of Arts and Humanities, School of Handicrafts, School of Art Education, School of Experimental Art, School of Innovation, Department of Visual Art Foundation, Department of Public Courses, and School of Marxism.
HIFA has more than 20 global partner universities and institutions for international academic cooperation and exchanges, carrying out activities such as lectures, artist-in-residence programs, student exchange programs, short-term study tours, workshops and international exhibitions. HIFA, with Hanseo University of South Korea, offers a Double Degree Program in Animation, an educational project approved by the Ministry of Education of P. R. China in 2012.
