Founded in 1958, Guizhou University of Finance and Economics is a multi-disciplinary university of finance and economics, with economics and management disciplines as its body, science & engineering and literature & law disciplines as its two wings, and education, sociology, arts, physical education, journalism and communication and other disciplines as other features.
Located in Guiyang City, Guizhou Province, covering a total area of 5,498 mu. It is home to the College of Big Data Statistics, an institution jointly founded by the National Bureau of Statistics and the Guizhou Provincial People’s Government. Western Michigan Institute, Guizhou University of Finance and Economics is a Sino-foreign cooperative education institution established upon approval of the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China. There is also a post-doctoral research station for business administration and a national continuing education base for professional and technical talents, both approved by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security of the People’s Republic of China. The university has 18 schools (departments) with 20406 full-time students, including 85 doctoral students, 2,941 postgraduate students and 17,322 undergraduate students. There are 1,939 faculty members in the university, including 1,202 full-time teachers, among whom 785 are full-time teachers with intermediate and senior titles, 667 teachers with doctoral degrees, 61 doctoral supervisors, 2 experts entitled to special government allowance from the State Council, 6 experts entitled to special government allowance from Guizhou Provincial People's Government, and 12 experts subject to unified governance of the CPC Guizhou Provincial Committee and the Guizhou Provincial People’s Government.
Guided by the principle of coordinated development of disciplines and majors, the university offers 3 first-level disciplines authorized to grant doctoral degree, 11 first-level disciplines authorized to grant master’s degree, 15 categories of majors authorized to grant master’s degree, 3 groups of national first-class disciplines for development, 6 regional first-class disciplines for development, 6 provincial key characteristic disciplines, and 10 provincial key disciplines.
With an attitude of open-mindedness and a desire to be embracing, the university has been advancing strategic cooperation with domestic and foreign institutions for exchange and research. It has successively established scientific research and teaching partnerships with the Central University of Finance and Economics, Nanjing University, and other universities. It cooperates with universities in the United Kingdom, the United States, Thailand, Malaysia, Macao, and other countries & regions to carry out teacher training, teacher exchange, student exchange, and other programs. It also established a Confucius Institute together with the Eritrea Higher Education Research Institute in Africa.
