Introduction

Kunming Medical University, formerly a medical specialty of Donglu University which was founded in 1933, is a provincial key university of Yunnan Province. In 1956, the medical specialty was separated from Donglu University and set up itself independently as Kunming Medical College. It became one of the first batch of institutions entitled to grant master's degree in 1981 and doctor's degree in 1998. In 2010, Yunnan Medical College for Professional Training was merged with it and renamed of it as Kunming Medical University in 2012. Right now, Kunming Medical University is one of the universities in the central and western regions of China first engaged in the basic capacity building project.
Kunming Medical University has now three campuses distributed in Chenggong (the main campus), Renming Western Road and Pingzheng, covering an area of 1482 mu (98.85 hectares). It has 18 colleges (departments), offering 33 undergraduate majors, 3 national first-class majors,4 national characteristic majors and 4 national excellent courses, 1 national experimental teaching demonstration center and 6 provincial teaching teams. There are 1 innovation team of the Ministry of Education and 31 provincial innovation teams.There are 1 International Cooperation Joint Laboratory of the Ministry of Education,1 Key Laboratory of State Health Commission, 2 national qualification accreditation laboratories (centers), 79 provincial key laboratories, technology research centers and bases. As for the discipline construction, there are three first-level discipline programs entitled to grant doctoral degree, seven first-level discipline programs entitled to grant master's degree, one discipline programs entitled to grant professional doctor’s degree and six discipline programs entitled to grant professional master's degree. There are 3 mobile stations for postdoctoral research in clinical medicine,basic medicine and pharmaceutics. The discipline of clinical medicine of Kunming Medical University has ranked in the top 1% of global ESI disciplines. It has now set up a perfect practice teaching network composed of 4 directly affiliated hospitals, 12 non directly affiliated hospitals, 15 teaching hospitals, 42 practice hospitals, 19 community practice teaching bases and 76 related professional practice teaching bases, fully meeting the needs of practice teaching to the students. The 1st and 2nd Affiliated Hospitals of Kunming Medical University are now the "Grade 3A" general hospitals, and the 3rd Affiliated Hospital and the Affiliated Stomatology Hospital are the "Grade 3A" tumor hospital and the  Stomatology Hospital with the highest level in Yunnan Province.
Kunming Medical University has now established the exchanges and cooperation with more than 90 universities and scientific research institutes from 29 countries and from HongKong, Macao and Taiwan Province.At present,there are almost 500 international students from 27 countries studying at Kunming Medical University.It is the International Medical Talent Training Base in Yunnan Province and one of the first batch of institutions to recruit international students with national government scholarship. And also, it is one of the universities approved by the Ministry of Education to launch the clinical medicine (teaching in English) for international students. Kunming Medical University has passed the quality accreditation of international students studying in China officially and initiated the establishment of South Asia and Southeast Asia Medical Education and Health Alliance.
