University History. Nanjing Forestry University (NJFU) is a provincial key university co-administered by Jiangsu Provincial Government and the National Ministry of Education. It was evolved to Nanjing Forestry College in 1952 from the Forest Departments of Central University (founded in 1902) and Jinling University (founded in 1910). In 1955, the forest departments of Wuhan University, Nanchang University and Hubei Agricultural Collage were merged in. Since 1985, it has obtained the present name. In 2017, NJFU enters into the list of "Double First-Class" University Project of China.
Education Programs. At present, NFU has 22 schools, offering a wealth of programs spanning across a broad range of fields with special emphasis on studies on resources, ecology and environment. In the fourth round of the national discipline evaluation (2017), three disciplines, ie., Forestry Engineering, Forestry, and Landscape Architecture, were rated as A class, occupying the first place among the forestry universities in China and among Jiangsu provincial colleges and universities. NJFU has been authorized to provide 8 mobile post-doctoral station programs, 46 doctoral degree programs, 115 master's degree authorization points, 27 professional degree authorization categories or areas, and 74 undergraduate programs. The total number of students is more than 30,000, among whom are 6,200 master, doctoral and foreign students. NJFU has more than 2050 faculty members, among whom are 2 members of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 181 PhD supervisors, and 700 teachers with senior titles.
Scientific Research. With the advantage of the characteristic disciplines, NJFU has long focused on the independent innovation. At present, NJFU possesses a National Engineering Center of Biologic Materials for Mechanical Products Packing, and 49 R&D research institutions, key labs and engineering research centers at provincial levels, among which are the Key Open Laboratory of Forest Genetics and Biotechnology, the Research Center of Forest Tree Seed in South China. There are also 66 university-based research institutions and centers. In recent years, NJFU has undertaken over 800 research projects, including more than 400 projects of the Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC). More than 300 achievements have been awarded by the state, ministry and province, including 5 National Invention Awards, 1 National Natural Science Award, 51 National Science and Technology Awards.
International Cooperation. NJFU attaches great importance to internationalization and takes an active role in developing open education and international exchange cooperation.NJFU has established long-term cooperative relationships in academic research, teacher training and talent exchange with dozens of universities and scientific research institutions from 30 countries. Some special international cooperation programs have been launched, such as the 3+2 program with the University of British Columbia, 3+1+1 program with the University of New Brunswick, 3+1 program with Rheinisch-Westfälische Techniche Hochschule Aachen, 3+1+1 program with the University of the West, 3+2 program with the University of North Texas, etc. Hundreds of students in NJFU go abroad to have international education, and around 600 international students come to NJFU to study and exchange annually.

Accommodation at Nanjing Forestry University
1. The International Student Dormitory (Masters and Ph. D)
The Graduate Student Dormitory is located in the northwest of the campus next to the North gate 1 (北一门). The building is a residence of 3 residential blocks, each of 6 floors.
The building has 36 apartments in total. Each apartment consists of 4 bedrooms, 1 kitchen, 1 shower, 2 toilets, and provides the direct drinking water for international students.
Each bedroom is occupied by 1 graduate student. Each bedroom is furnished with:
1 single bed;
1 table, 2 chairs;
1 wardrobe;
1 air conditioner.
*Please note that the bed comes without bedding.
The kitchen in each apartment is furnished with:
- 1 kitchen set;
- 1 refrigerator;
- 1 microwave;
- 1 induction cooker;
*Please note that the kitchen does not include kitchenware and electric cookers.
Free Wi-Fi is available in the apartments. The laundry service is available on the 1st floor of the building next to the dormitory.

2. The Nandashan(南大山) International Student Dormitory (Foundation and Bachelor)
The Undergraduate Student Dormitory is located in the southeast of the campus next to the East gate (东门). The building is a residence of 3 residential blocks, each of 7 floors.
The dormitory has 34 apartments and 102 rooms in total. Each apartment consists of 3bedrooms, 1 hall, 1 kitchen, 1 shower, 2 toilets.
Each bedroom is occupied by 2 students. Each bedroom is furnished with:
- 2 single beds;
- 2 tables, 2 chairs;
- 2-zoned wardrobe;
- 1 air conditioner.

PROGRAMS
1. Undergraduate Program
Students are required to complete the curriculum between 4 to 6 years and fulfill the designated number of credits. Successful graduates will receive a graduation certificate along with the bachelor’s degree, according to the regulation of the Degree Committee.
2. Master Program
Students are required to complete the curriculum between 2-4 years, fulfill the designated credits, complete the master's thesis and defend it in front of a panel of experts. Successful graduates will receive a graduation certificate along with the Master's degree, according to the regulation of the Degree Committee.
3. PhD Program
Students are required to complete the curriculum between 4-7 years (in normal circumstances), fulfill the designated number of credits, conduct research, complete the doctoral thesis and defend it in front of a panel of experts. Successful graduates will receive a graduation certificate with the doctoral degree, according to the regulation of the Degree Committee.
4. Chinese Language Training Program
The Chinese Language Training Program start in March and September every year, the program courses are made up of Chinese Listening, Chinese Reading, Chinese Speaking, Chinese Writing, Chinese Comprehensive, and Chinese Culture.
5. Visiting Student and Scholar Program
Applicants can be undergraduates, graduate students and other scholars who are interested in this program. After completing the study plan here, you will be awarded a certificate of completion.
6. Summer Program-Exploring Forestry & Forest Products in China
The course will examine the current development of Chinese Forestry and Forest Products industry through the analyses of forest policy and economy, commercial plantations, products processing, furniture industry and wood marketing. It provides the opportunity for undergraduate students to learn about forestry and forest products issues in China, while also exploring Chinese society and culture through interactive lectures, various social activities and intercultural workshop.

After examination and verification of the submitted application materials, a decision shall be made upon the potential student either is accepted or rejected.
Step 3
In case the applicant is accepted by NJFU, Admission notice and JW202/JW201 Form for visa application shall be issued and mailed to applicant by express mail. Applicant should use the admission notice and the JW202/JW201 form to apply for the student visa (X1 visa) at Chinese Embassy in applicant’s home country.
ELIGIBILITY
1. Applicants who are over the age of 18, in good health condition, willing to abide by the Chinese law and regulations of NJFU can apply for studying at Nanjing Forestry University.
2. According to the relevant regulations of Chinese Ministry of Education, former residents of mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan who have emigrated to other countries and are applying as international students, must present valid passport or citizenship documents dating from before April 30, 2017 and proof of residence abroad for at least 2 years from April 30, 2017 to April 30 2021(9 months of residence abroad per year may be considered as one year).
3. According to the relevant regulations of Chinese Ministry of Education, applicants whose both or one of parents is a Chinese citizen and has settled abroad, having foreign nationality at birth, not having Chinese nationality, when applying as international students, must present valid passport or citizenship documents dating from before April 30,2017, along with proof of residence broad for at least 2 years from April 30, 2017 to April 30, 2021(9 months of residence abroad per year may be considered as one year).
4. Applicants should have an appropriate languages’ proficiency and are expected to submit
related certificates.
–Programs in English medium: For those whose native or official language is not English, please provide score report of English language test (e.g. TOEFL:80+/IELTS:6.0+/others), or valid proof of English proficiency;
–Programs in Chinese medium: HSK Level 4 or above; or valid proof of Chinese proficiency.

CAMPUS LIFE
Nanjing Forestry University has 2 on-campus dormitories for international students which inside are equipped with four single rooms, shared kitchen, shared bathroom, furnitures, air-conditioner, internet access and other electronic facilities. Our gym Indoor Athletics Center and Sports venues are available for use if you’re interested in sport and exercise. There are some students cafeterias including Muslim canteen. Covering an area of 47000 square meters, the newly-built library, with a collection of 2 million volumes, as well as Chinese and foreign journals and newspapers, serves as a comprehensive modern information center.
