位于广东省汕头市，是1981 年经国务院批准成立的广东省属综合性大学，是教育部、广东省、李嘉诚基金会三方共建的省部共建大学，广东省首家高等教育体制机制改革实验示范校，也是全球唯一一所由私人基金会——李嘉诚基金会持续资助的公立大学。截至目前，学校占地面积1990.20 亩，建筑面积57.01 万平方米。汕头大学建校以来一直得到中央、省市领导的亲切关怀和大力支持。1986 年，邓小平同志在北京会见了李嘉诚先生，提出汕头大学要办得更加开放一些，逐步办成重点大学。江泽民、胡锦涛、李鹏、乔石、李瑞环、李岚清等党和国家领导人也曾亲临学校指导办学。教育部、广东省委省政府、汕头市委市政府均高度重视和大力支持汕头大学的改革与发展。

 

2011 年3 月，广东省列汕头大学为自主办学教育综合改革试点。2012 年6 月，教育部、广东省、李嘉诚基金会决定三方共建汕头大学，支持汕头大学继续深化改革。学校自2015 年以来进入广东省高水平大学建设计划高校。2016 年12 月，汕头大学和以色列理工学院合作创办的广东以色列理工学院获教育部批准正式成立。2018 年11 月4 日，汕头大学获批成为广东省首家高等教育体制机制改革实验示范校，深入探索一条可复制可推广的高校体制机制创新之路。2019 年，汕头大学东校区项目启动建设，东校区规划办学规模2 万人，项目选址于华侨试验区东海岸新城塔岗围片区东北角，规划总用地面积约1551 亩，投入总资金逾40 亿元。

 

汕头大学的建设与发展一直得到著名爱国人士及国际企业家李嘉诚先生的鼎力相助，李嘉诚基金会至2025 年支持汕大发展款项将逾100 亿港元，此外基金会还在香港额外付出了人力、物力和资源。汕头大学是李嘉诚先生“超越生命的承诺”，是李嘉诚基金会的核心项目，也是推动中国高校教育改革的平台。 长期以来，汕头大学全面贯彻党的教育方针，坚持社会主义办学方向，努力践行李嘉诚先生“以优质管理成就学术自由”的理念，进行全方位改革，为学者创造更自由的空间，以孕育创造性思维及创新性研究。

Shantou University (STU) located in Shantou, Guangdong, founded in 1981 with the approval of the National State Council, is a comprehensive university under the jurisdiction of the Guangdong Province and co-developed by the Ministry of Education (MOE), the Guangdong Provincial Government and the Li Ka Shing Foundation. STU is the first Higher Education Institutional Reform Experiment Demonstration University in Guangdong and the only public university in the world that is constantly subsidized by a private foundation, namely the Li Ka Shing Foundation. Currently, the campus covers a total area of 1,990.20 mu and a total built area of 570,100 square meters. Since its inception, Shantou University has been strongly supported by the Central, Provincial and Municipal authorities. In 1986, Comrade Deng Xiaoping received Mr. Li Ka Shing in Beijing and suggested that the University be more open to the outside world and dare to take unconventional measures, thereby gradually developing into a key university in China. Comrades Jiang Zemin, Hu Jintao and other leaders of the Central Government also graced the University with their visitations. The Ministry of Education, the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee and Provincial Government, as well as the Shantou Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government also attached great importance to the reform and development of STU.

 

In March 2011, the University's proposed program to transform itself into as elf-governing institution of higher education was designated by the Guangdong provincial government as the "Guangdong Pilot Project of Comprehensive Educational Reform". In June 2012, the Ministry of Education, the Guangdong Provincial Government and the Li Ka Shing Foundation signed a tripartite agreement to co-develop STU and support its educational reform. Since 2015, STU has been listed in the Guangdong Funding Program for Developing High level Universities. In December 2016, MOE approved the formal establishment of the Guangdong Technion Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT), a higher educational institution jointly established by Shantou University and Technion-Israel Institute of Technology. On November 4, 2018, STU was approved as the first Higher Education Institutional Reform Experiment Demonstration University in Guangdong, aiming to seek a path of higher education institutional reform and innovation that is replicable and applicable. In 2019, the STU East Campus construction project was started, with the planned student body of 20,000. The east campus is located at the northeast corner of the Tagangwei area of the East Coast New Town in the Overseas Chinese Economic and Cultural Cooperation Experimental Zone. The total planned area is about 1,551 mu, and total estimated investment is over RMB 4 billion.

 

The construction and development of Shantou University receives a generous support from Mr. Li Ka-shing, the distinguished patriot and international entrepreneur. Till the year of 2025, the Li Ka Shing Foundation will have earmarked grants of over HK$10 billion to support the University. Besides that, the Foundation has contributed manpower and resources support in Hong Kong to support STU's development, which is a commitment of Mr. Li Ka-shing that would extend "beyond his lifetime". STU is one of the core projects of the Li Ka Shing Foundation as well as a platform for promoting educational reform in Chinese universities. Following the CPC's guiding principle for education and adhering to the socialist orientation, STU made tangible efforts to fulfill the idea of "good governance in support of academic freedom" which is valued by Mr. Li Ka-shing. Based on its comprehensive reforms, STU strives to create more freedom for scholars as well as to encourage creative thinking and innovative research for a long time.

 

Keeping abreast of the educational development trend of the country and continuing to play the role of "a pilot site for higher educational reform", Shantou University embarks on a series of comprehensive educational reforms that focus on the "Advanced Undergraduate Education based on Integrative Thinking". Through these reforms, the University is striving hard to become a top-tier research university that breaks development barriers between disciplines of Liberal Arts, Sciences, Engineering and Medicine, optimizing interdisciplinary collaboration and integration.

东校区根据学校总体发展定位，按照容纳2万名全日制在校生办学规模、综合大学（2类）的定位类型进行规划建设，总用地面积1551亩，总建筑面积约82.1万平方米，总投资约70亿元。

东校区校园规划基本沿袭汕头大学校本部设计风格，同时融入现代设计理念，中西合璧，整体规划融合创新、文化、集约、生态理念，形成“依河滨海、一水环绕、两轴三心、四带联动”的结构秩序。结合项目规划用地实际情况，以“使用功能优先、整体统筹”为原则，整体规划、设置了教学实验区、生活区、体育区和中心共享区等功能分区。

二期为学生宿舍区（运动员村）用地面积约369亩，建筑面积约15.2万平方米。建设内容包括：10栋学生宿舍楼、3座食堂、附属设施等。2019年7月启动建设，计划于2021年8月底前建成。

According to the overall development orientation of Shantou University, the East Campus is planned and constructed according to the size of accommodating 20,000 full-time students and the positioning type of comprehensive university (category 2). The total land area is 1551 mu, the total construction area is about 821,000 square meters, and the total investment is about 7 billion yuan.

The planning of the East Campus is based on the current style of shantou University, and at the same time, it is integrated with modern design concepts. With Chinese & Western elements, the overall planning is integrated with innovations, cultures and ecological concepts, thus forming a view of green life. According to the situation of the land used in the project planning, the overall planning includes teaching experimental areas, living areas, sports areas and public areas and other functional areas.

The second phase is the Student Dormitory Area (Athletes' Village) with a land area of about 369 mu and a building area of about 152,000 square meters. The construction includes 10 student dormitories, 3 canteens and ancillary facilities. Construction has started in July 2019 and is scheduled to be completed by the end of August 2021.

申请基本条件
高中毕业或以上学历。从中国大陆（内地）、香港、澳门和台湾地区移民外国，作为外国留学生申请者，须取得外国国籍四年以上，且在近四年有在国外实际居住2年以上的记录（一年中实际在国外居住满9个月可按一年计算，以入境和出境签章为准）。
遵纪守法，勤奋好学，成绩优良，品行端正，愿意遵守中国法律法规和汕头大学校规校纪，对华友好，身心健康。
 
申请汉语授课项目的学生，除汉语国际教育专业外，其余专业均要求汉语水平考试（HSK）成绩至少达4级或以上；使用汉语完成中学阶段学业的学生可申请免交此项证明；申请全英授课项目的学生无此项要求。汉语未达标的学生可先申请到我校进行汉语学习。

Guidelines for undergraduate and language students
 
Dear applicants: During the COVID-19 pandemic, the enrollment of international students for the academic year 2020-2021 is proceeding as normal. For more information, please refer to the following information for more details of the application procedures.


Application Time
Apply before 31 May of each year and enroll in September of the same year.
* If you still want to apply for admission after the above period, please contact the International College to confirm your degree remaining status.


Basic Requirements for Application
High school diploma or above. From mainland China (mainland), Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan immigrants, foreign applicants, as foreign students shall obtain a foreign nationality more than 4 years, and has the actual living abroad in nearly four years records of more than 2 years (the year the actual living abroad with nine months can be calculated by a year, will be subject to entry and exit stamps).
To abide by laws and regulations, studious, good grades, good conduct, willing to abide by Chinese laws and regulations and the rules and regulations of Shantou University, friendly to China, physical and mental health
Students applying for Teaching Chinese as a foreign language are required to score at least Level 4 or above on the HSK, except for the major of International Chinese Language Education. Students who have completed secondary school studies in Chinese may apply for exemption from this certificate; This requirement is not applicable to students applying for english-only courses. Students who fail to meet the Standard of Chinese can apply to study Chinese in our school first.

新生奖学金

汕头大学所有专业的国际学生自费申请者均可申请广东省政府来粤留学生新生奖学金。

在校生奖学金

自费来校留学的国际新生入学后第二年开始每年均可申请广东省政府来粤留学生在校生奖学金。

申请流程

广东省政府来粤留学生奖学金申请时间一般为每年2-6月，具体申请时间及申请流程请留意本网站通知。

说明

广东省政府来粤留学生奖学金候选人需经我校推荐后上报广东省教育厅，最后获奖名单以广东省教育厅经公示后分配给我校的名单为准。
此奖学金项目的获得者需按照汕头大学招收自费留学生的收费标准缴纳所有费用（包括报名费、学费和住宿费），奖学金将在广东省教育厅批准后按规定一次性发至获得者的个人银行账户。
 
Chinese Government Scholarships


In order to promote the mutual understanding, cooperation and exchanges in various fields between China and other countries, the Chinese government has set up a series of scholarship programs to sponsor international students, teachers and scholars to study and conduct research in Chinese universities. China Scholarship Council (hereinafter referred to as CSC), entrusted by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China (hereinafter referred to as MOE), is responsible for the enrollment and the administration of Chinese Government Scholarship programs. Now, 289 designated Chinese universities offer a wide variety of academic programs in science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, economics, legal studies, management, education, history, literature, philosophy, and fine arts for scholarship recipients at all levels.

Chinese Government scholarships provide full scholarships or partial scholarships to international students studying in China, covering tuition fees, accommodation expenses, living expenses and comprehensive medical insurance. Shantou University (University Code: 10560) is a host university for Chinese Government Scholarship. Excellent international students are welcomed to apply for Chinese Government Scholarships to study at Shantou University. The application period of Chinese government scholarship ranges from January to April each year. The specific time is subject to the announcement of the sending departments (Chinese embassies, consulates or other designated institutions) of the applicant's nationality.

Scholarship for Students from Guangdong Province


Scholarship for Freshmen
International students of all majors in Shantou University can apply for the New Student Scholarship of Guangdong Government at their own expense.

Scholarships for Enrolled Students
International students who come to Shantou University at their own expense can apply for the scholarship from the second year after enrollment.

Application Procedure
The scholarship application period of is generally from February to June every year. Please refer to the notice on this website of School of International Education for the specific application time and application process.

Note

The candidates for Scholarship for Students from Guangdong Province should be recommended by university and reported to the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education. The final candidates shall be determined by the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education.
The final candidates of this scholarship should pay all the fees (including registration fee, tuition and accommodation fee) according to the standard of Shantou University for self-funded international students. The scholarship will be paid to the final candidates' personal bank accounts all at once after being approved by the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education.

汉语培训中心


汕头大学汉语培训中心创建于1986年，是经国家汉办批准成立的对外汉语教学机构，也是国家面向东南亚的汉语师资培训基地之一，并成为华南地区较早的对外汉语教学点之一。近20年来培养了近千名来自泰国、日本、韩国、美国、马来西亚、越南、新加坡、俄罗斯、智利等国家的留学生。

汉语培训中心根据学生不同程度的汉语水平，设有4个班级：初级班A（零起点班）、初级班B、中级班、高级班。每年二月和九月开学。中心的特色是小班制，各班级人数在15-20名左右，教学过程温馨融洽,为学生提供全方位的听说读写语言技能训练，学生将有更多的机会得到教师的悉心指导。同时,汕头大学一应俱全的语音室、多媒体教室等教学设施为学生提供了良好的学习条件。学习期间中心还将定期组织学生外出参观访问，让学生切身感受潮汕地区独有的各种人文景观及风土人情。

Chinese Language Training Center


The Chinese language Training Center of Shantou University was established in 1986. It is a Chinese language teaching institution approved by The State Hanban. It is also one of the Chinese language teacher training bases in Southeast Asia and one of the earliest Chinese language teaching centers in South China. In the past 20 years, it has trained nearly 1,000 students from Thailand, Japan, South Korea, the United States, Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore, Russia, Chile and other countries.

There are currently four classes according to the students' levels of Chinese: Class A (starting level), Class B, Intermediate Class and Advanced Class). Semester starts in February and September every year. The center is characterized by small-sized classes and the number of each class is around 15-2. The teaching style is joyous and harmonious for students to provide a full range of listening, speaking, reading and writing language training. Students e more enjoy opportunities to get teachers' guidance. At the same time, Shantou University is fully equipped with language Labs, multimedia classrooms and other teaching facilities to provide students with good learning conditions. During the study period, the center will also organize students to study outside the campus so that students can experience the unique Chaoshan culture, landscape and local customs.
