     Anhui Medical University is a key provincial university with a profound history of 94 years. The predecessor of Anhui Medical University was Dongnan Medical College, established in 1926 in Shanghai. Moved first to Huaiyuan County, Anhui Province at the end of 1949, and then to Hefei, the capital of Anhui Province, in 1952, Dongnan Medical College changed its name to Anhui Medical College. In June, 1996, approved by the National Committee on Education, Anhui Medical College was renamed Anhui Medical University.  

As a key provincial university, Anhui Medical University is one of the universities co-invested by Ministry of Education, National Health &Family Planning Commission and Anhui Provincial Government. Since its foundation in 1926. Anhui Medical University has accumulated a profound historical background with the university motto" Study hard and try to practise, bring up excellent doctors" and university ethos"Seeking for earnest, proficiency and creativity". The University has been devoting itself to the development of a teaching-research type medical university with high standards, and carrying out the fine tradition of making contribution to human health.

Currently,  the University has 13,000 full-time undergraduates and 4300 full-time graduate students and 13,000 in-service teaching and medical staff.  The University has 34 undergraduate programs. There are 4 authorized first-level discipline doctoral programs in Clinical Medicine, Pharmacy, Basic Medical Sciences, and Public Health and Preventive Medicine, as well as 13 authorized first-level discipline master’s programs. The University has 7 directly affiliated hospitals with about 15000 beds. It also has 7 directly affiliated hospitals with about 15000 beds.

The University attaches great importance to international exchange and cooperation. The University has reached cooperation agreements with universities in 16 countries and regions. The University is the vice chairman university of the “the Belt and Road” International Medical Education Alliance and the ASEAN-China Medical Education University Alliance. More 1600 foreign institutions have cooperation in scientific research papers with Anhui Medical University. 

In order to meet the diverse housing needs of international students, when we arrange the rooms, we will take the students’nationalities, religious beliefs, living and eating habits into account so that they can adapt to campus life smoothly.

International students in Anhui Medical University have access to Muslim canteen, public kitchen and laundry room. Four classrooms were renovated for international education.

International students’ dormitories are equipped with wardrobes, desks, beds, small dining tables, chairs, and other furniture such as air-conditioners and refrigerators.

In order to make international students to adapt to the new environment more smoothly,  and be focused on the academic study in the new country, School of  International  Education has decided to enroll 10 culture tutors to be responsible for daily verbal communication and cross cultural adaptation of international students. Applicants are required to have obtained cet-4 certificate (or fluency in oral English is also acceptable). 

The Chinese and International Students' Union(CISU) was founded in 2013, which consisted of culture tutors and international students. A series of rich and colorful cultural activities were organized by CISU which include the Visit to Huangshan and several traditional Chinese festival celebrations . The university has always kept close communication with international students.

The CISU is responsible for various aspects of the life of international students it includes; The Lifestyle Department, Publicity Department, Cultural Department, Sports Department and The Office and Academics Department. Each department plays a vital role in the life of international students whether it be accompanying students to the hospital or organizing different sports teams. Competitions and other events are usually hosted by different departments of the CISU throughout the year. The international students form a community on campus, in which students can express themselves in their own way. It creates an atmosphere of warmth and comfort especially since most students are hundreds of miles away from their home.These activities help promote student interaction and enrich the bonds between students of different nationalities and from different cultures.
