About Gannan Medical University

Gannan Medical University (GMU) is located in Ganzhou, a famous historical and cultural city in Jiangxi province, China. Organized by the People's Government of Jiangxi Province, GMU is a full-time undergraduate medical university. Professor Han Jisheng, an academician of China Science Academy, works as the honorary president of GMU. GMU was founded as Ganxian Advanced Midwifery Vocational School of Jiangxi Province in 1941, and developed to Gannan Medical Technical School with college degree authorization in 1958. GMU was updated to an undergraduate university in 1988 and obtained the master's degree authorization in 2013. It has carried out Joint PhD programs with Hunan University of Chinese Medicine in integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine since 2008, and with Suzhou University and China Medical University in clinical medicine and basic medicine since 2019.

Centering on medical majors, GMU coordinates the development of Science, Engineering and Sociology. GMU has developed into a regional top medical university with distinctive characteristics and advantages. There are 30 undergraduate majors, including 2 national distinguished majors (clinical medicine science and anesthesiology), and 8 provincial first-rate majors (Clinical Medicine Science, Applied Psychology, Pharmacy, Nursing, Anesthesiology, Medical Imaging, Preventive Medicine, and Medical Imaging Technology). It also has 4 first-level masters’ disciplines (Clinical Medicine Science, Basic Medicine, Pharmacy and Medical Technology), 3 masters’ professional degrees disciplines (Clinical Medicine Science, Nursing and Public Health), 5 education training programs for outstanding doctors of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health, as well as more than 120 provincial education training programs for outstanding doctors and engineers, etc.

GMU has 135 practice teaching bases for various specialties, including 3 directly affiliated hospitals and 8 non-directly affiliated hospitals, to meet the needs of students of all majors for practice and internship. The First Affiliated Hospital of the university is the only provincial tertiary A-level hospital in Ganzhou City, ranking 127th in the performance assessment of 2398 tertiary public hospitals across the country organized by the National Health Commission in 2018. In 2019, the hospital ranked 153rd in the overall influence of Chinese hospitals, third in Jiangxi Province, and 4 majors ranked among the top 100 in the country. It has been listed in the top 100 hospitals in China for two consecutive years (released by Peking University). The DRGs (disease diagnosis related groups), the core indicators of hospital management and evaluation, rank the top three in the province. In 2013, the hospital was approved as a National Educational Practice Base for college students. In 2019, it was recognized as one of the first 74 National Clinical Teaching and Training Demonstration Centers by the Ministry of Education and the National Health Commission.

Gannan Medical University offers double rooms for international students with air-condition, internet, hot water, shower room and washroom. Laundry room and Self-study room in dormitory building are well-equipped and always ready for use. Rooms are charging only 4000RMB / Person / Year.

Eligibility

1、Non-Chinese citizens with a valid foreign passport. Applicants who have emigrated from mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan to other countries should meet the conditions set by the Document No.12 (2020) of Ministry of Education of the PRC.
2、Applicants should be in good health and be of good conduct. Physical conditions must meet the relevant requirements of the entry-exit inspection and quarantine of the People's Republic of China and visa management. Applicants for clinical medicine are required to be not color-weak or color-blind.
3、Undergraduate program: applicants should hold his/her senior high school transcripts of no less than 65% or B grade (valid within two years). Subjects like physics, chemistry, biology and English should be no less than 65% or B grade of the total marks.
4、Postgraduate program: applicants shall have a bachelor’s degree from a WHO recognized institution with a corresponding major and good academic performance.

Comprehensive Evaluation

1、Admission for premedical program: transcript requirements qualified and pass the premedical program interview.
2、Admission for MBBS program: Chinese language proficiency with HSK-4 test and GMU entrance exam (written test and interview).
3、Admission for postgraduate program: Applicant shall pass the post-graduate entrance examination organized by GMU (written test and interview)

Fees and Costs
Tuition Fee: 20000 RMB/year for premedical program student; 30000 RMB/year for MBBS program student and 35000 RMB/year for postgraduate program students.
Accommodation fee: 4000 RMB/year for twin-bed room.
Miscellaneous fee: 1300 RMB/year, including medical insurance 600 RMB/year, residence permit 400 RMB/year, medical examination fee 300 RMB/year.
All students shall do their internship at GMU affiliated hospital with the same tuition fee.

Scholarships
1、Jiangxi Government Scholarship for International Students for top academic and morality performance undergraduate and postgraduate students respectively. Candidates will be evaluated yearly.
2、Assistantship scholarship for postgraduate student. Applicants have to complete a certain amount of assistantship work according to a guideline and the scholarship is used to offset tuition and accommodation fees.
3、GMU “Belt & Road” Scholarship: MBBS program students whose high school grades exceed 75% or B category can apply for the GMU “Belt & Road” Scholarship. Students who are unfriendly to China or Chinese people, disrespect teachers，or violate school rules or regulations will be disqualified from applying.
4、GMU Scholarship: Students with a score of more than 65 in each subject can apply for it.
5、HSK-4 Stipend: available for students who pass HSK-4 Test in the first year, no limit on number.
6、GMU Morality Stipend: according to the evaluation of student’s performance on morality, attendance and dormitory sanitation. 10 months evaluation in an academic year, no limit on number.
