The Development History
1974: Established as Anhui Normal University, Huaibei
1978: Named as Huaibei Coal Industry Teachers College administered by the former Ministry of Coal Industry
1998: Operated in a co-construction system by both the central and Anhui municipal governments, but mainly administered by the latter
2003: Authorized to confer master degrees
2009: Enrolled as an institution with an approved program of being constructed into a unit authorized to confer doctoral degrees and was also approved to establish postdoctoral posts in Anhui Province
Operational Conditions
The university has two campuses – Xiangshan and Binhu and covers a total area of 161 hectares with 740,000 square meters of floor area. Up to now, the university has stored about 4.2 million paper books and electronic documents in its libraries. It also has over 27,000 teaching and scientific research instruments and equipments, with a total value of over 227 million yuan. It now has 3 provincial level key laboratories, 2 provincial level key research centers of humanities and social sciences. It has been entitled “Garden Unit of Anhui”, “National Model Greening Unit”, “The 10th Civilization Unit of Anhui”, “The 11th Civilization Unit of Anhui” and “1st Educational Civilization Unit of Anhui”.
Disciplines and Specialties
The coverage of discipline categories in HNU is as follows: law, arts, history, education, economics, management, art, science, engineering and agronomy. There are now 5 provincial level key disciplines, 5 provincial level disciplines approved for being constructed and authorized to confer doctoral degrees, 1 provincial level discipline with an approved major discipline-construction project. In the university, there are 18 colleges, with 82 undergraduate specialties, 5 national level characteristic specialties, 1 national level experimental site for comprehensive specialty reform, 1 national level key training base for teachers in special education, 10 provincial level characteristic specialties and 15 provincial level experimental sites for comprehensive specialty reform.
Faculty
Currently there are 1182 full-time teachers in HNU, among whom 1035 have got doctoral or master degrees and 489 have been conferred senior professional titles. There are now 2 academicians (concurrent post), 1 member of the “Hundred, Thousand, and Ten Thousand Leading Talent Project” in the “Special National Supporting Program”, 1 state-level candidate of the “New Century Hundred, Thousand, and Ten Thousand Talent Project”, 3 “Wanjiang Scholar” chair professors, 1 candidate of the “Excellent Young Teachers Program of MOE (Ministry of Education)”, 1 provincial outstanding professional and technical talent, 17 provincial level academic and technical leading teachers and candidates, 8 provincial outstanding university disciplinary talents, 27 provincial young and mid-aged university disciplinary leading teachers, 57 provincial young and middle-aged backbone university teachers, 14 State-level Excellent Teachers and 5.1 Labor Medal winners. In the university there are 13 teachers enjoying special government allowance.
Talent Cultivation
Now in the university there are 21872 undergraduate students and 808 postgraduate students. It has 1 national level school-enterprise cooperative practice base, 1 national level outside-school practice base, 6 provincial level teaching teams, 7 provincial level model teaching centers, 2 provincial level experimental areas for innovation of talent cultivation mode and 4 provincial level school-enterprise cooperative practice bases. The university has already undertaken 160 teaching research projects at provincial level or above and has won 70 teaching achievement prizes. The university passed the level assessment conducted by MOE with “Grade A” in 2007. It has been authorized to confer master degrees in 15 first level disciplines and also confer professional degrees in 7 areas.
Scientific Research
The university has 1 provincial level collaborative innovation center, 3 provincial level key laboratories, 2 provincial level key research centers for humanities and social sciences. There is 1 provincial level scientific and technological innovation team, 3 university innovation platform teams and 1 provincial level “115” industry innovation team. It has undertaken 120 state-level scientific research projects, 300 provincial level scientific research projects. The university has also won 70 prizes at provincial level or above with 5 national achievement prizes, 1 second prize in natural science by MOE, 3 first provincial scientific and technological achievement prizes and 2 second and 3 third prizes, 1 university excellent achievement prize in scientific research by MOE and 8 literature and art publication prizes in social sciences in Anhui. In 2015 and 2016, HNU has twice been ranked among the top 100 Chinese universities in the global Nature Index. In 2017, the chemistry discipline entered the top 1% of the world’s ESI, and its papers were ranked 23rd among the mainland Chinese universities in total citation frequency.
International Exchange and Cooperation
Currently, HNU has established interscholastic exchange and cooperation relationships with 40 universities and institutions in the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Australia, Russia, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, Cambodia, and Taiwan, China. Over 30 specific project agreements on joint training, student exchange and teacher exchange have been signed and implemented. Every year, the teachers in HNU are sent to the sister universities as visiting scholars or for short-term training, and both undergraduate and postgraduate students participate in exchange and cooperation programs.
The apartments are equipped with public kitchen, public laundry, Air conditioner, internet access, and bathroom.

Ways and Time of Application
The applicants apply directly to the Department of International Exchange and Cooperation, Huaibei Normal University in April to June for Fall Semester, and in October to December for Spring Semester.
Criteria and Eligibility
1. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens with valid passports and be in good health.
2. Applicants for undergraduate programs must be the holders of high school diplomas or the equivalent of high school diplomas in China.
3. Applicants for master’s degree programs must be the holders of Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent of Bachelor’s degree in China.

2. Highest diploma (photocopy) and Academic transcripts (photocopy) Graduating students should provide a certificate of impending graduation and a certificate of enrollment, and hand in diploma after graduation. (Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized translations in Chinese or English).
3. A study or research plan. All applicants are required to submit a study or research plan. It must be in Chinese or in English and no less than 400 words. Applicants for postgraduate programs must submit two Letters of Recommendation in Chinese or English by professors or associate professors.
4. Photocopy of Blood Test and Foreigner Physical Examination Form (http://www.chnu.edu.cn/Item/129116.aspx). The original copy should be kept by the applicant.
5. Photocopy of Passport
6. HSK 4 or above is required for undergraduate students, and HSK 5 or above is for Master’s degree candidates. A one-year Chinese language course is needed before academic study if the above requirements are not met (not available for Chinese native speakers or those Chinese-taught majors who get the degree in Chinese universities) .
