Introduction to Hubei Engineering University

Hubei Engineering University (HBEU), a provincial regular multi-disciplinary comprehensive university, was established upon the approval by the Ministry of Education. It is located in the downtown of Xiaogan City, a sub-central city of Wuhan, the National Modern Agricultural Demonstration Zone, the National Demonstration Base of Combination of Military and Civilian Industrialization and the Xiaogan National High-tech Zone-Xiaogan City. It’s only 50 kilometers away from downtown Wuhan. It takes only 18 minutes to the airport by inter-city high speed train. The transportation is convenient and the location advantage is obvious.

The university was founded as Third Provincial Teacher-Training School in 1943.  After merging with Xiaogan Branch of Huazhong Agricultural College and Southern Urban-Rural Construction School, it was renamed as Hubei Engineering University in December 2011. Therefore, the university has a history of 77 years so far.

At present, HBEU covers an area of 116.53hectares, with campus floor area of 0.73 million square meters. The teaching and research equipment, such as transmission electron microscopes and nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometers, are valued at 173 million RMB, with the collection of books of 25.2 million volumes. More than 20,000 students are registered. There are more than 200 teachers with Doctor’s Degree.

HBEU has 18 schools offering 66 undergraduate programs covering 10 disciplines including engineering, science, agriculture, economics, management, law, education, literature, medicine and arts. Among them, 2 are national outstanding agricultural and forestry talent training programs. 1 is a national comprehensive reform pilot program of “Electronic information science and technology” . 3 majors, namely biological science, horticulture and chemistry, are branded as China’s characteristic majors in national colleges and universities. There are 19 provincial undergraduate programs in automation, high polymer material science and technology, optical information science and technology, Chinese language and literature, comprehensive reform pilot program, strategic emerging (pillar) industrial talent training program, and "Jingchu outstanding talent" collaborative education program. There are 5 provincial key disciplines such as agricultural resources and environment, material science and engineering, optical engineering, education and botany. One new type of biomass based material with provincial advantages and characteristics; There are 24 academic platforms such as key laboratory of quality and safety control of characteristic fruits and vegetables in Hubei province , the new rural development research institute in Hubei province, plant functional components utilization engineering technology research center in Hubei province, Hubei provincial key laboratory of crop diseases, monitoring and safety control, Hubei provincial collaborative innovation center for the conversion and utilization of biomass resources, provincial graduate work station run in collaboration between Hubei Engineering University and Xiaogan Agricultural Research Institute .
