Beijing Foreign Studies University(北京外国语大学)

Beijing Foreign Studies University, or BFSU, located in the Haidian District of Beijing, where the key institutions of higher education and high-tech industries are concentrated, is divided into two campuses the West Campus and the East Campus. BFSU covers a total area of 492,000 square meters and enjoys access to convenient transportation, with the Third Ring Road running through the two campuses.
Founded in 1941, BFSU is a prestigious university in China under the direct leadership of the Chinese Ministry of Education. It is one of China
s top universities listed under Project 985 and Project 211, both comprising top universities in China. BFSU is one of Chinas oldest language universities. It is the first institution specializing in foreign language studies. It has the longest history among universities of its kind in China, offering a complete range of degrees, diplomas and programs at various levels, with the largest number of foreign language programs in the country. BFSU is also one of the first universities in China to accept international students.
Today BFSU has 121 bachelor
s programs, 44 of which are found exclusively at BFSU in China. It also offers advanced degree programs in 6 major fields  literature, economics, management, law, education, and history, including doctoral programs under 2 subjects (foreign languages & literature; management science & engineering), academic degree programs (master) under 11 subjects (law, political science, Marxist theories, applied economics, Chinese language & literature, foreign languages & literature, journalism, management science & engineering, industry & business administration, education, and world history) and professional degree programs (master) under 8 subjects (financeinternational businessChinese language teachingtranslation/interpreting journalism & communicationlaw, accounting, and MBA). Foreign languages & literature program was rated as A+ in a nationwide assessment in 2017, ranking top in China. According to QS university rankings in 2018, 2 subjects  linguistics and modern languages  ranked among top 100 globally, higher than other Chinese universities.

International students enjoy the convenience of dormitories located on Beijing Foreign Studies University’s campus, a short walk away from classrooms and cafeterias. The dormitories are clean and comfortable. Students have the option of different styles and designs in accommodation.
Several dormitory buildings are for international students. Guojiao Building is on the east campus, the White building and Building No.6 are on the west campusmost of the dormitories are with bathroom. All the rooms are equipped with air-conditioner, television, desk and chair, bed and bedding. High-speed internet facilities and services are available in dormitories for charge.
Also BFSU provides off-campus dormitory which only 15-minute-walk from our school.
Given the limited dormitory resources, in the first semester, BFSU accepts no room reservation but will assist new students with their accommodation with pre-allocation of designated type of apartments. From the second semester on, reservation for accommodation can be made.
Room applications by diploma students in their final year are subject to room availability. In principle, BFSU will no longer provide on-campus apartments.
Students who choose to live off campus during their study should arrange their own accommodation in advance. Those who choose to live in a residential community should be accompanied by the landlord within 24 hours of check-in, go to the nearest police station for the Registration Form of Temporary Residence.
Students living off-campus can proceed on enrolment and visa with the valid registration form of temporary residence.

BFSU adopted an online application procedure. Applicants can register and log into the BFSU International Student Online Service System (http://study.bfsu.edu.cn) to apply.
Please note:
(1) The application system is accessible: October 15 to December 15, April 10 to June 15 every year;
(2) Application language: Chinese or English;
(3) Applicants must fill in real, correct, complete and valid information on the online system. The applicant should bear all consequences and responsibilities should there be any wrong, missing, false or invalid information that affects the admission and enrollment;
(4) In addition to filling out the online information, applicants should also upload required documentation as attachments. The attachments shall be color scanned copies, and the originals shall be maintained for verification. Please refer to Appendix 1for a list of required documents for attachments.

Fees and refunds are all denominated in RMB.
Payment of the registration fee is a necessary step for applying for study at a university and should be completed after information submission. The registration fee will not be refunded once it has been charged. Tuition fees should be paid in one lump sum on a semester or academic year basis. Tuition fees for non-Chinese language majors should be paid in one lump sum on an academic-year basis. All tuition fees should be fully paid within the prescribed period. Those who fail to pay tuition fees in full and on time will not be able to get registered.
Students who choose to pay their tuition fees via bank transfer should transfer the money to the designated account and keep the proof of payment in case of verification. In the case of dropout and school transfer, refunds (if any) shall be implemented in accordance with the Provisional Regulation on Charges for International Students at BFSU.

Students

BFSU now has about 5,600 undergraduate students, about 3,100 graduate students ( masters and doctors candidates), and about 1,600 international students.

Faculty

BFSU attaches great importance to academic development of its faculty. It now has over 1,200 full-time teachers and supporting staff and nearly 200 foreign teachers from 60 countries and regions. Over 90% of the teachers have experiences of overseas study.

Teaching and Research Institutions

Today BFSU has 33 teaching and research institutions, many of which were newly launched in recent years. These new institutions include an international graduate school jointly run by BFSU and the University of Nottingham (UK), BFSU Academy of Language Sciences, BFSU Academy of Foreign Literature Studies, BFSU Academy of Regional and Global Governance, BFSU Academy of Comparative Civilization and Intercultural Communication, Beiwai College, School of Global Governance, and Graduate School of Education. Furthermore, the School of Asian and African Studies was reorganized and split into two separate schools ——School of Asian Studies and School of African Studies. BFSU also has 1 key research center for social sciences under the Ministry of Education (MOE) ,1 research center under State Language Commission, 4 centers for regional and country studies under MOE, 37 centers for regional and country studies registered at MOE, and 3 research centers for people-to-people exchanges under MOE . BFSU publishes 4 CSSCI journals , 1 CSSCI-expanded journal and other journals . BFSU also runs Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press (FLTRP), the largest publishing house in China for foreign language books, audio-visual products and digital products.

Library Holdings

The BFSU Library has nearly 1.45 million copies of printed books, over 2.22 million e-books, 1,123 periodicals, and 97 databases, all in Chinese and other languages and featuring mainly on language, literature and culture. In recent years, the Library has increased its collections involving politics, law, diplomacy, economics, journalism and management. It continues to make use of the latest information technology to build an open, interconnected, smart, innovative and integrated information structure, producing a number of remarkable results such as a multilingual official website, BFSU Online, a software platform, etc. Launched in 2015, the multilingual official website operates in 50 languages. In 2018, BFSU was listed as one of the pilots under a MOE program to promote AI technology application in Chinese universities.

International Communication and Cooperation

To enhance its international exposure, BFSU works in partnership with 313 universities and academic institutions in 91 countries and regions. It has cooperation programs with many foreign universities, including the University of Nottingham, School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), INALCO, Moscow State Linguistic University, University of Göttingen, Sapienza University of Rome, Eötvös Loránd University, Jagiellonian University, etc.BFSU also works as a partner with foreign universities to operate 23 Confucius Institutes and Classrooms in 18 countries.

Employment Situation

By October 31 2018, the employment rate for graduates with a bachelor's degree is 96.55%, the employment rate for graduates with a master's degree is 97.23%, and the employment rate for graduates with a doctor's degree is 97.53%.
