Xinyang Normal University is located in the south of Henan Province and is one of the two key normal universities in Henan Province. It is known as "the cradle of teachers" and "the most beautiful university in Henan Province." It was founded in 1975 and was upgraded to a university-level school in 1978 with the approval of the State Council. In 1998, it was approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council as a master's degree authorized institution.
The university has more than 40 years of undergraduate and more than 20 years of graduate school history and experience. There are 23 independently-set teaching units and one independent research institute. There are 83 undergraduate majors, 16 master's degree-awarded first-level disciplines, and 14 professional master's degree-granting rights, and jointly trained doctoral students with Minnan Normal University and Chinese Academy of Forestry. The university has 3 state-level specialties, 1 national comprehensive professional reform pilot specialty, 23 provincial-level specialty and professional comprehensive reform pilot specialties.
Occupying an area of over 3,100 mu and a floor space of 910,000 square meters, XYNU exhibits as a provincial model of digital campus that boasts a collection of at least 2,980,000 volumes of books and 4,652 foreign and domestic journals, more than 110 laboratories for diverse purposes and over 150 multimedia and microteaching classrooms.
Among all the 1,900 faculty members in XYNU, nearly 600 of them hold a title of professorship or associate professorship, more than 1400 teachers have master or doctor degrees, and over 200 either enjoys special allowances from the State Council or honorable titles of “Outstanding Expert”, “Distinguished Professor”, “Academic and Technical Leader”, or “Outstanding Teacher” at the provincial level. And in its full-time undergraduate and graduate programs, XYNU now has a total enrollment of 27,157 students from 27 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions throughout China.
XYNU attaches great importance to scientific research. It has established the Humanities & Social Science Key Research Base of Henan Province, the Engineering Laboratory of Henan Province, the Academician Workstation of Henan Province as well as other more than 20 scientific research platforms. It has undertaken and completed more than 600 scientific research projects at or above ministerial or provincial levels. Apart from the 360 works published, a total of over 11,500 academic papers have been issued in academic journals at home and abroad, among which 1,600 have been embodied in such authoritative databases as SCI, EI, ISTP and CSSCI, and meanwhile more than 3,200 scientific research prizes of different categories have been awarded to the university at or above the prefectural level. Journal of Xinyang Normal University, which is officially published and distributed among over 10 countries and regions, is widely acknowledged. Along with its natural science edition, as one of the Chinese core journals, science and technology core journals and most influential academic journals among all institutions of higher learning in China, while the philosophy and social science edition has been listed among the top 100 journals in philosophy and social sciences in China, and as one of China’s core journals of humanistic and social sciences as well as a first-class journal in Henan province.
In purchase of openness and inclusiveness, XYNU has forged friendly ties with colleges and universities in the U.S., UK, Canada, Australia, France, New Zealand, Japan, Korea, Italy and other countries. While sending students to further education in countries like Korea, New Zealand and USA etc, it has also received many foreign students from the U.S., Madagascar, Thailand, Zambia, Pakistan, etc.
Build a platform for connectivity, promote bilateral and multilateral cultural exchanges and multi-level, multi-disciplinary and multi-form practical cooperation in education with foreign universities and colleges, and focus on enhancing international cooperation with universities and colleges in our neighboring countries and "the Belt and Road Initiative" countries.
In recent years, our university has firmly grasped the goal of establishing a high-level normal university and entered the fast track of leap-forward development. The quality of students has been increasing year by year, and the employment competitiveness has continued to increase. National projects, awards, and scientific research funds have hit record highs year after year. Ranked among the top universities of the same type across the country; in a variety of university rankings, the overall rankings have significantly jumped, and social recognition, reputation, influence, and radiation have continued to rise. In the 2017 “Best University Rankings in China” ranking, our school ranks the 5th in Henan Province; in the Wushuilian 2017 “China University Comprehensive Power Ranking”, our school ranks 282 in the country and 8th in Henan Province.
