Harbin Engineering University (in short HEU, formerly Harbin Military Engineering Institute), founded in 1953, is located in Harbin, ice city, near beautiful Songhua River and renamed as Harbin Engineering University in 1994. HEU listed in the first key universities in the national "211 Project" (to set up 100 national key universities in 21st Century); listed in the key constructed universities in China having graduate school in 2002; listed in the key construction on the Specific Disciplines Innovation Platform (belongs to 985 project) in 2011; listed to the key universities of constructing “the First-class University and the first-class Discipline” and passed the Quality Assessment of International Student Education in 2017. HEU is a major personnel training and scientific research in the fields of shipbuilding engineering, marine equipment, ocean exploration and nuclear energy application.
HEU covers an area of 1.38 million square meters with building area of 1.07 million square meters. HEU has 17 colleges, school and departments and more than 40 scientific research institutions and 150 scientific research and teaching laboratories. There are 14 post doctor scientific work and mobile stations, 15 Doctoral first-class disciplines, 32 Master’s first-class disciplines, and 61 undergraduate programs. 1. On-campus Accommodation
International students who need to live in campus will be allocated when the flight/train/bus schedules are sent to university by email: heufao@hrbeu.edu.cn. Necessities include beddings, desk and bookshelf, bathroom, TV, refrigerator, heater, hot water supply, campus wired and wireless network.
On-campus dwelling students should comply with the Regulations on Management of International Student Apartments Harbin Engineering University. Violators will be treated in accordance with relevant articles.
The General Reception Desk of Waizhuan International Student Apartments is on the first floor of building. It serves from 06:00 am to 22:00 pm. The service phone number: +86-451-82588207
(1) Accommodation fee and living expenses
Dwelling students must pay accommodation fee in a timely fashion.
Students who pay by academic year should pay the accommodation fee for the entire academic year. Otherwise short term programme standard of payment would be applied.
Students who pay by day should pay the accommodation fee for 4 months at one time.
(2) Laundry service
Public laundry rooms are provided at each floor of Waizhuan International Student Apartment, where washing machines are available. The charge is 4 yuan RMB per bucket for washing machine (around 40 minutes).
(3) Internet service
On-campus dwelling international students can apply for opening campus network account with student card and photocopy of passport at the places below: Activation fee is ￥20 RMB, monthly rental fee is 40yuan RMB.
2. Off-campus Accommodation
If you do not successfully book a room in the on-campus apartments, you need to arrange off-campus accommodation in advance. We are sorry that currently the University is not able to officially recommend off-campus housing information and housing agencies for your off-campus accommodation.
International students who need to dwell off campus must submit the Application Form for Off-campus Dwelling and obtain the consent from the College of International Cooperative Education (Room 107, Building 26). Off-campus dwelling international students should sign formal and legal lease contract with the owner.
Within 24 hours after move-in, they must go to the local police station in the dwelling area for a residence registration. International students who change their off-campus dwelling places must go to the College of International Cooperative Education for registration and apply for new residence registration within 24 hours after moving into new place. They must go to the College of International Cooperative Education to report their contact information, such as address and mobile number recorded.
Off-campus dwelling international students can apply to China Telecom and China Netcom for network service.
Entry Requirements
1. Applicants should be non-Chinese citizens and in good health, and will observe the Chinese laws and the regulations of Harbin Engineering University
2. Applicants for Master program should be under the age of 35; for Doctoral degree program should be under the age of 40.
3. Applicants for Master program should have a Bachelor degree or the equivalent educational background of a Bachelor degree; for Doctoral degree program should have a Master degree or the equivalent educational background of a Master degree.
4. Applicants for Chinese-taught degree programs should have HSK5 or above (scores≥180) or the equivalent qualification.

4. Study plan (no less than 800 words). (only one acceptance letter)
5. Two recommendation letters by professors or associate professors (written in English or Chinese with signatures and contact information).
6. Passport copy (personal information page, valid for one year at least).
7. Language Proficiency Certificate (Chinese: Chinese-taught degree programs should have HSK5 or above (scores≥180) or the equivalent qualification; English: 80 on the TOEFL IBT or 5.5 on the IELTS at least, valid for two years only).
8. Physical Examination Form (Original, valid for six months only).
